The corporate board of Wateree Community Actions, Inc. has legal responsibility for the agency. It is the governance for the agency, making policies to give general direction for the carrying out of affairs and supports an executive director and charges him/her to lead and manage the employees and operations daily.

There are fifteen (15) board members and each one represents an entity of the community from the public, poor, and private sector. Each sector has five representatives.

Those of the Public Sector must be appointed by a cheif elected official of his/her respective county.

Those of the Poor Sector must be democratically elected by poor people themselves. They may elect a poor person or a non-poor person to represent them. The representative must be a resident of the target area, which is determined by the board.

Those of the Private Sector must be a member of and representative of an organization or business or institution which has capacity and sensitivity that will complement the angency's mission. The  Board decides which organizations to invite to serve.

An organization may petition to serve when vacancies occur. The organization's president or leader must designate the representative to serve.

Regular Board meetings are held six months a year, beginning with January and thereafter, every other month. Each member serves on at least one standing commitee.

The Board has its own Bylaws and policies to follow and provides a set of personnel policies for employees to follow.

Board members are expected to attend all board meetings, board training and actively participate in the agency's self-evaluation process.

The Board is obligated to remain strong in its role of advocacy for the poor, in prudent accountability and in keeping the agency sustained, responsive, and true to its mission.
